Kitchen Fire Suppression System Periodic Maintenance

Kitchen Fire Suppression System Periodic Maintenance

  • The Extinguishing System should be periodically inspected every 6 months in accordance with international standards. All active and passive components in the system must be checked and maintained by authorized service personnel.
  • The fire extinguishing system is uniquely installed for each kitchen hood with pre-engineering work. Never change the position of the cooking devices after the extinguishing system has been installed.
  • If the positions or types of cooking devices are to be changed, these changes must be made under the control of the authorized service. Otherwise, the extinguishing system may not function in case of fire.
  • Maintenance, revision and installation should only be done by the authorized service.
  • Hoods and chimneys should be cleaned periodically against fire risk.
  • The following items should be followed in periodic maintenance.

Detector Line Control and Periodic Maintenance

  • The covers of the corner pulleys in the system are removed and the pulleys inside are checked. The pulleys that do not move or are dirty are removed, washed with hot water and allowed to move freely.
  • Corner pulleys that do not work should be replaced with new ones.
  • The comfortable movement of the stainless steel rope in the detector line should be monitored.
  • Aluminum pipes and connection fittings used in the detector line are checked. Fasteners (clamps) are checked. Damaged ones are replaced.

Detector Control and Periodic Maintenance

  • All detectors are dismantled and cleaned by washing with hot water.
  • After the detector is cleaned, detectors checked visiually and the damaged ones are replaced.

Activation Button Control and Periodic Maintenance

  • The internal mechanism is controlled by opening the button cover. If it is dirty, it is cleaned.
  • Button seal is checked. If the seal is broken, it is renewed.
  • Button cover is closed and sealed.

Periodic Maintenance of Activation Mechanism Control

  • Mechanism box cover opens.
  • Propellant CO2 cartridge is checked by weighing. It is changed if there is a difference from the value on the cartridge.
  • The mechanism spring is controlled.
  • The movement is monitored by operating the mechanism.
  • If present, the micro switch is controlled. Switching contacts and power, gas and fan off function are confirmed.

Periodic Maintenance of Activation Valve

  • It is checked that the manometer needle on the valve is in the green area. If the pressure is low, it is investigated why the pressure lowered. After sealing, the tube is pressurized again.
  • If the valve is damaged or oxidized, it is replaced with a new one.

Nozzle Periodic Maintenance

  • Noting the positioning places of the nozzles, all of them are removed.
  • The oil cap of the nozzles is removed.
  • The pulverizer at the nozzle tip should not be disassembled or removed in any way.
  • Nozzles are cleaned by boiling in oil-solvent mixed water for at least 15 minutes.
  • It is washed with clean water, dried and collected.
  • Nozzles are properly attached according the type of cooking appliances.
  • Before removal their positions are checked and verified.

System Tube Periodic Maintenance

  • If there is any damage or corrosion around the tube or valve, the tube is completely disassembled and checked.
  • After checking that it is not damaged, it is filled and pressurized.
  • Outer surface of the tube must be undamaged.
  • Manufacturer and information labels on the tube must be in place and legible.
  • Every 5 years, the tube must be hydrostatic tested and certified.

Training

  • In every periodic maintenance, the authorized service firm should be asked to give training to the kitchen staff again.
  • It has been reported that untrained personnel could not respond in a timely and safe manner with panic behaviors in a fire incident.
  • According to the information in the system's user manual of the kitchen staff;
  1. System introduction
  2. Automatic operation
  3. Manual operation in case of fire
  4. Periodic checks
  5. Things to be careful during use
  • It should be explained verbally. The narration and participants must be documented in writing.

Periodic Maintenance of Discharge Pipes

  • Pipe connection points should be checked visually during periodic controls.
  • If the system has been activated, the inside of the pipes should be washed with clean water.
  • It can be re-assembled according to the hydraulic calculation rules.
